How to Conserve Fuel in your Lexus Vehicle

June 5th, 2018 by

If you’ve been to the gas station lately to refuel your vehicle, you likely noticed that gas prices have increased quite a bit. Nobody wants to pay an arm and a leg for something that cannot be avoided, and while there’s no way of avoiding filling up your tank, there are ways that you can reduce your fuel consumption so that you have to fill up less often. Here at Woodfield Lexus, our expert mechanics are happy to help with a few tips to save fuel in your Lexus vehicle.

Check your tire pressure

Changes in temperature can cause your tires’ PSI to fluctuate. The lower your tire pressure, the more fuel it takes for your car to move down the road, so make sure that your tires are at the correct pressure level. If you’re not sure, you can stop by our Lexus tire center and ask an expert.

Don’t exceed the speed limit

You may think that driving fast and saving time on longer trips can reduce fuel costs, the opposite is true. The sweet spot where your car gets the maximum fuel efficiency is around 50 miles per hour, and the faster you get above that, the worst your fuel economy is going to be.

Close the windows and the sunroof

Although it can be refreshing to have the windows and sunroof open on a nice summer day, doing so can actually hurt your fuel economy. It’s not as big of a deal when you’re just driving around town in Chicago, IL, but when you’re on the highway driving at high speeds, open windows can hurt aerodynamics and use more fuel than necessary.
