News on 2018 Lexus Models
There’s a lot of news about new Lexus cars coming to the Chicago area and Woodfield Lexus in the months ahead. We’re sharing a few of the highlights so that if you’re in the market for a new luxury car or SUV you can make an informed choice.
First up is the 2018 Lexus UX. The concept version was so successful when it was shown late last year that it was quickly given the go-ahead for production. A production spec model debuts later this year at the Tokyo International Auto Show, and you can expect to find it at your Lexus dealership this fall.
The 2018 Lexus RX will also be in Tokyo (and at Woodfield Lexus) in somewhat different form this year. While we’re still waiting on full specs, we do know three things right now: it will be available with three rows of seating for the first time, its wheelbase will be identical to the 2017 Lexus RX, and its rear overhang will be extended to fit the third row of seats.
The 2018 Lexus LS is making headlines too. It will have an optional Advanced Safety Package that has highly sophisticated autonomous driving aids. Lexus emphatically states that this is not a self-driving car even though it easily meets SAE International Level 2 Autonomous Driving requirements. Even though these are some of the most advanced systems commercially available at the moment, they are meant to assist, and not replace, the driver.
With that said, this could be the clearest evidence we’ve seen yet that Lexus remains on track to a self-driving car by 2020.
